Matthew signed for the Stags in the Summer of 2006 after boss Peter Shirtliff fought off numerous other clubs for the talented Midfield stars signature. Recognising a need for a strong right sided player Shirtliff identified Hamshaw as his main target and started the chase early on when he heard that Matthew was not happy at Stockport and was looking for a club moving in 'the right direction'.<\/P>
Starting his career as a trainee at Sheffield Wednesday he spent seven years there before moving to Edgely Park where he made no fewer than 40 appearances.<\/P>
